Introduction

The department of English was established in 1998 at Special and General level with Two Full time and One visiting/ contractual faculty. Each year a new Committee of ELLF: English Language and Literature Forum is established and several student centric activities are organized through the ELLF. The Department has successfully organized 15th State Level Shree Rabindranath Thakur English Paper Presentation Competition for the undergraduate, post-graduate and research scholars.Further, with the help of Department, ‘A Certificate Course in Communicative English’ is also organized. ‘A Certificate Course in Pronunciation’ is also conducted with a view to minimise the mother tongue interference while communicating in English.‘A Course in Basic English Grammar’ is held with a view to minimise the common errors while communicating in English.Wallpapers based on Innovative themes are prepared by the students of English Department.The students of English Department also participated in the competitions organised by the other colleges. Student centric activities are arranged so as to create interest among students regarding the English language and literature such as Paper Presentation, Public Speaking, Elocution Competition, Paper Reading Competition, Group Discussion, Movie Review, Book Review, Seminars, Poetry Recitation Competition, etc.

 

Thus, the department is constantly making these activities as conducive as possible so as to enable students to nurture their literary and linguistic abilities in English.

"To facilitate the English learners to learn the language effectively and help them to understand linguistic and literary texts and assist them to acquire command over the target language."
